The desire to achieve the perfect, flawless smile has made cosmetic dentistry very popular. On the other hand, there also are people who suffer accidents and need all or part of their teeth to be reconstructed and / or cleaned. They may select from these following procedures.
The main scope of cosmetic dentistry is wide and varied, however, this field primarily serves one purpose: improving the aesthetic appeal of the patient.
There are some vital steps to remember if you are seeking a specific treatment, such as teeth whitening; always discuss the price and get an exact description of how every procedure will be performed. With today's advanced techniques, patients can find out just how white his or her teeth can actually become. Because of its more affordable cost, tray bleach whitening has become one of the most popular ways to whiten teeth. All teeth whitening techniques have a side effect of some sort.

Cosmetic Dentistry - You Can Have that Beautiful Smile
Everyone today likes to look beautiful. They are increasingly conscious of their appearance and how they look when they talk, smile, frown and so on. Any doubt about their physical appeal during an activity will have them scurrying for ways to rectify that. For example, a person wanting a beautiful smile will have no qualms about going to all lengths to ensure that he or she gets one. The first step they take is to conduct detailed research, which tells them what affects their smile and what they need to do to make it nicer. Most often it is the position of their lip line and their gumline size that has an impact on the appearance on smiling.
It is interesting to find people quite unconcerned about the contours of their lipline and their gumline, and instead make endless trips to a cosmetic dentist to get their teeth whitened, thinking naively that teeth coloring is the reason for concern. They do not often realize that corrective procedures that will reshape their lipline or surgery to alter the size of their gumline, will make a drastic difference in their smile.
One often notices people having beautiful teeth but a "gummy smile". That is, each time they smile a big part of their gums, that are pink, is visible. So even if they get teeth whitened, cleaned or any other orthodontic treatment, the beauty of their smile will not get enhanced. This is primarily because the fault lies not in their teeth but in their gum line and all that it entails is getting their gumline reshaped from numerous specialists available. This involves a simple corrective procedure, which is risk free. The family dentist would be able to recommend the best person to go to.

A Few Facts About Cosmetic Dental Surgery
The main aim of cosmetic dentistry is to improve upon the tooth structure of a person. Cosmetic dentistry is basically a specialty in the much wider field of general dentistry. Even though the main aim to improve on the beauty of your smile, your oral health is given first priority during this procedure. The dentist may have to call upon the various fields of dentistry like orthodontics, endodontics, etc. when he does a procedure for cosmetic dentistry.
As mentioned earlier, the dentist will give first priority to your oral health rather than to the aesthetic aspect. One of the most commonly used methods to improve the quality of your smile is to use dental veneers. Dental veneers are custom made shells that can be used to create a better shape for your teeth.
Even though veneers are mostly used to cover up an existing problem, the dentist will never use if the underlying problem is a serious one. For instance, he might use the veneer to cover up a discolored tooth but he will never go through with the procedure if the tooth in question is about to fall off or is otherwise seriously damaged. The dentist would then refer you to a specialist who will correct the problem and will have to give you a clean bill of health before the cosmetic procedure is done.

Cosmetic Dentistry
Your teeth play an important part in making your face more beautiful. A nice smile is only as beautiful as the set of teeth that it reveals. As a result, people have been obsessed with having perfect teeth since the ancient days. But what ever precautions that we take, problems can arise. Fortunately, there are treatments that can set things right. I will discuss a few such treatments that can make your teeth look better again.
The field of medicine that deals with modification of our teeth for purely aesthetic purposes is called cosmetic dentistry. The main goal of cosmetic dentistry is to change the appearance of teeth to make a person more beautiful. Modern cosmetic dentistry uses techniques like:
* Teeth whitening. The discolored tooth is made white again by a process of bleaching. This will make sure that your teeth are always are a nice color.
* Enamel shaping is another procedure where the contoured enamel is removed
* A veneer is a new technique which is used when the normal whitening procedures don't prove effective. This is a sort of tooth lamination that can be used to great effect when more traditional whitening techniques fail.
* Gum lifting is another modern procedure which can be used to change the gum line of the patient and there by change the appearance of the person.
* Bonding is also an important technique that can be used to repair the imperfections in the teeth like chips, gaps or cracks. If the patient does not have conditions like tooth decay or 'pulp exposure', bonding can be done without anesthesia. The bonding technique is very beneficial because it protects the roots of the teeth. It also helps in repairing the cracks or chips on the surface of the teeth. You can also use it to reduce the gap between the front teeth which can be apparent in some people. It can even be used to replace missing teeth and in giving support for loose teeth.
* Dental implants are used to fill the missing tooth positions. The implants are attached directly to the jawbone and this makes it very durable.

Cosmetic Dentistry for a Better Smile
"Before getting any work done, it is recommended that you have your teeth whitened and that your mouth is free from disease", says Dr. Blanca Martinez-Hoppe. She is a cosmetic dentist who counsels her patients. Lots of people realize that whitening is all they need. There are plenty of treatments that can be done to give dramatic smile changes such as dental bonding, veneers, tooth whitening, and invisible braces.
To do dental bonding, the dentist would use a tooth-colored composite resin that is similar to enamel and covers the outside surface of the tooth changing the color or shape. This is used best with people who have chipped, jagged, or slightly decayed teeth. It is also used to fill small gaps between teeth. The teeth can still become stained overtime, but cannot be whitened. Bonding will have to be redone around every five years. Dental bonding is a simple procedure. Fixing small gaps in between teeth takes about 45 minutes per tooth. Usually the charge is around $175- $200 per tooth. If you feel it necessary to have all of your front teeth bonded, veneers may be a better choice.
When the work is too much for simple bonding, porcelain laminate veneers are used. Veneers can also be used in place of some orthodontic treatments. The color, size, shape, and arrangement of teeth can be done by veneers to give a near perfect smile. It is a two-step process. First, a mold of the patients teeth is used as a guide. Second, veneers are applied on the second visit. Once put in, veneers won't stain from coffee, tea, cola, or wine. They require a grinding down of par of the tooth structure before applied. Anesthesia and numbing accompany the process. Sensitivity will be for a few weeks after procedure. They run $800-$1500 per tooth and last ten or more years.
