Cosmetic Dentistry

Your teeth play an important part in making your face more beautiful. A nice smile is only as beautiful as the set of teeth that it reveals. As a result, people have been obsessed with having perfect teeth since the ancient days. But what ever precautions that we take, problems can arise.  Fortunately, there are treatments that can set things right. I will discuss a few such treatments that can make your teeth look better again.

The field of medicine that deals with modification of our teeth for purely aesthetic purposes is called cosmetic dentistry. The main goal of cosmetic dentistry is to change the appearance of teeth to make a person more beautiful. Modern cosmetic dentistry uses techniques like:

* Teeth whitening. The discolored tooth is made white again by a process of bleaching. This will make sure that your teeth are always are a nice color.

* Enamel shaping is another procedure where the contoured enamel is removed

* A veneer is a new technique which is used when the normal whitening procedures don't prove effective. This is a sort of tooth lamination that can be used to great effect when more traditional whitening techniques fail.

* Gum lifting is another modern procedure which can be used to change the gum line of the patient and there by change the appearance of the person.

* Bonding is also an important technique that can be used to repair the imperfections in the teeth like chips, gaps or cracks. If the patient does not have conditions like tooth decay or 'pulp exposure', bonding can be done without anesthesia. The bonding technique is very beneficial because it protects the roots of the teeth. It also helps in repairing the cracks or chips on the surface of the teeth. You can also use it to reduce the gap between the front teeth which can be apparent in some people. It can even be used to replace missing teeth and in giving support for loose teeth.

* Dental implants are used to fill the missing tooth positions. The implants are attached directly to the jawbone and this makes it very durable.
